NON*MART - The Interdependent, a journal of the Non*Mart community


	Introducing: The Interdependent A journal of the NonMart community. A site for the exchange of ideas, goods and services that explores and supports a more relational, less commercial economy and alternate communities. Much like the original NonMart that was originally located in a storefront/gallery, this project will address similar themes but will be portable and freely distributed therefore, able to reach more people. How can we create a culture that depends more on people than buying power? What is the role of the artist or intellectual in today's economy? How does the economic system help or hinder the artist? How can we be socially engaged while at the same time, offering alternative viewpoints? These are some questions we want to tackle and we'd love your help. We know you're out there - here's your chance to let your voice be heard.

The first issue of The Independent newspaper will be free. It will be available for digital download (as a PDF file) from this website in May 2010 and eventually as an 8 page (11.25 x 17.5) printed newspaper.

Check out the Paper Sections

Modeled on a small town paper, The Interdependent will be layed out like a tradional paper but will give a voice to those concerned with non-traditional, innovative viewpoints. Here's how things are shaping up!

Awesome People: each edition will feature interviews with awesome people, artists, writers, relatives, teachers, historic figures, strangers, friends, anyone who has had a positive impact on others in a particularly relational way.

750-1250 words.

Food: Articles, essays, art and poetry about food, cooks, recipes and memories will be a regular feature of our paper.
1-2 food related features will be included in each issue.

500-1250 words.

Music: Music will be a regular feature. We hope to include 1-2 segments per issue. Music reviews, interviews, experiments, radical and innovative communities etc...

500-1250 words.

Comics & Graphic Stories: 2-3 features per issue, illustrations, drawings, sketches and strips that show new viewpoints on how to be socially engaged.

Editorials & Opinion Pieces: A broad category that offers fairly straight forward and persuasive writing. Poetry, prose, politics and fiction. 4 -6 features per issue.

500-1250 words.

Site Specific: This section is on the spot reporting. Go to an event, the beach, art studio, street corner, and report the what's happening and how it relates to a)
- the expanding role of the artist
- art in everyday
- anti-commercial culture.
2-3 features per issue.

Reviews: Books, art shows, theatrical performances, street art, this section is an open forum. 2-3 features per issue.

500-1250 words.

Non-commercial advertisement: Advertise an art project, a person, an idea! Create an ad for something non-commodifiable just for fun! 3-5 features per issue.
