Introducing the Trade-O-Mat sponsored by
Non*Mart. On view starting October 27, 2011 A new form of “vending”, the Trade-O-Mat provides an antidote to mechanized retail experiences. The Trade-O-Mat promotes community engagement between makers of objects and those who value them. The Trade-O-Mat, a small, wall-mounted machine, contains exquisite, one-of-a kind art objects and specality items created by local artists. The items are available to anyone willing to offer something other than money in exchange. Fill out a trade request detailing goods or services you want to swap with an artist showcased in the machine. Each Trade-O-Mat artist, will review the submitted requests and determine which compelling offer to swap with. Come trade with us!
From October 27 to December 3, 2011. you can visit the Trade-O-Mat at Kala Art Institute. Check out the Trade-O-Mat along with many other artworks all exploring alternative financial systems in the show "Cashing Out".
